La prima nave da Crociera di una compagnia di navigazione indiana ha iniziato la sua attività alla fine del 2011. E' la Amet Majesty (foto) della Amet Shipping India di Mumbai. Vecchia di 35 anni, ha 250 cabine e ospita fino a 650 passeggeri.
Nata come traghetto sul Baltico, è stata trasformata in nave da crociera e ha cambiato otto volte nome e società armatrice. Le rotte che segue si sviluppano lungo le coste dell'India, spingendosi a volte fino al Golfo e agli Emirati Arabi. L'itinerario base è il seguente: Mumbai-Goa-Mangalore-Mumbai. Per il prossimo mese di giugno è prevista un'estensione del servizio nel Golfo del Bengala, con visita delle isole Andamane. Lo svilupparsi di una clientela locale abbiente, attratta dalle crociere, lascia supporre che a questa prima nave se ne aggiungano presto delle altre. Dal 2007 altre compagnie hanno provato a operare su quel mercato: la malesiana Star Cruises con la Superstar Libra e la cipriota Louis Cruise con l'Aquamarine.

The first Indian-owned cruise liner, the Mumbai-based Amet Shipping India's Amet Majesty (photo) began operations in late 2011. She's 35 years old and has 250 cabins for up to 650 passengers. Originally a Baltic ferry, she was then converted into cruise liner. Her basic itinerary is Mumbai-Goa-Mangalore-Mumbai, sometimes striking out for the Arabian Gulf and the UAE. A new destination in the Bay of Bengal is planned for june, with a visit to the Andaman Islands. The growth of a prosperous local clientbase eager to enjoy the cruise experience means that this ship will soon be joined by others. Since 2007 several companies have tried to open up this market - Malaysia's Star Cruises with the Superstar Libra and the Cyprus-based line Louis Cruise with the Aquamarine.
